The Edmonton EXPO Centre is seeking an enthusiastic Banquet Captain to join the team As a Banquet Captain, you will play a pivotal role in the efficient and effective planning and execution of banquet functions. The successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Delegating duties to supervisors and staff
  • Communicating and reviewing daily function sheets between the kitchen and front of house
  • Leading service meetings before functions and conducting post-function reviews with the team
  • Ensuring all team members are accounted for, logging absentee employees, and reorganizing staff to cover for deficiencies
  • Providing feedback on staff schedules
  • Ensuring catering requirements are met efficiently while controlling labour cost
  • Ensuring all staff receive continual performance feedback to ensure service quality
  • Resolving conflict between employees and suggesting staff performance feedback to the Bar/Banquet Manager
  • Enforcing uniform codes and policies with staff members
  • Responding to last-minute changes of events and client requests
  • Completing maintenance and repair requests using Aware Manager software
  • Completing daily billing and updating event plans in venue and event management software
  • Resolving client complaints promptly and effectively to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ensuring quality service and customer satisfaction while working closely with staff, managers and clients on and off the floor
  • Maintaining a cooperative working relationship with other departments
  • Working safely at all times and promoting a safe work environment
  • Managing cash float and ensuring all cash handling procedures are followed
  • Other cash handling duties such as, reconciling remittances, prepare bank deposits and maintain POS equipment

Our successful candidate will have:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid ProServe, ProTect and Food Safety certification
  • 2-3 years of Banquet experience, preferably in a large hotel or convention centre
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • Superior customer service and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships with other departments
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
