Job Description

The Clinical Nurse Educator reports to the Manager, Clinical Practice, and works in collaboration with the surgical leadership team to support program and corporate education and quality initiatives. The Clinical Educator is responsible for educational programming for Surgical Program staff.

Accountabilities:

  • Promotes excellence within the Surgical Program through coaching and mentoring of staff
  • Develops, provides and evaluates educational programs including orientation, skill certification, continuing education and professional development
  • Acts as a consultant to the team regarding nursing practice issues and functions as a role model and resource
  • Has knowledge and implements education based on relevant quality and evidence based practices driven by the interpretation and evaluation of continuous quality improvement indicators
  • Acts as a consultant to the clinical services manager drawing upon advanced knowledge of practice standards
  • Leads and/or participates in specific projects which support practice within the teams (e.g. policy and procedure development)
  • Areas of responsibility may change according to the needs of the Surgical Program

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years recent clinical experience in surgery
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • BScN required
  • Masters degree in nursing or education preferred
  • A combination of experience and qualifications may be considered
  • Certification in applicable specialty area(s) desirable
  • Experience in development of policies and procedures an asset
  • Experience in adult education an asset
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, critical thinking, project management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate, develop, plan and deliver educational material based on evidence-based practice
  • Highly motivated, self-directed with demonstrated ability to provide leadership within an interdisciplinary team
  • Fluent in English (comprehension, reading, writing and speaking)
  • Computer literacy and skill in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Required to work and travel between all Osler sites
  • Ability to move between sites and flex hours to meet educational needs of nurses working specific shifts


Additional Information

Hours: Currently days, Monday to Friday with some evenings/nights, early mornings and occasionally weekends (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
