You will perform the administrative duties of our payroll function which in turn makes you part of the success of our growing Municipality.

Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor this position is responsible for daily data entry and maintenance of the payroll function while providing exceptional customer service to internal stakeholders.

As a Payroll Clerk, you will:
• Process and produce semi-monthly payroll and provide timely, accurate and well-communicated processes in pay categories consisting of salaried, hourly, elected officials and casual employees.
• Support supervisor on the administration of compensation and payroll.
• Provide administrative support including filing and preparing reports for various departments.
• Perform clerical function of Disability programs.
• Conduct payroll preparation by gathering and inputting all required data into the payroll system including performing payroll journal entries.
• Compile and reconcile the payroll general ledger accounts and ensure they are always in balance.
• Respond to internal queries regarding payroll information.
• Assist with the maintenance of employee payroll records from time of hire through separation of employment in an accurate and timely manner.
• Perform reconciliation of benefit monthly statements.
• Review employee accruals to ensure accuracy and consistency.

- Passion for public service.
- Post-secondary diploma in payroll, accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a position at an equitable level.
- A proven intermediate Microsoft Excel proficiency. 
- Public Sector experience within a unionized environment is preferred. 
- Ability to obtain or progress toward Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline driven environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to troubleshoot and analyze data.
- Communicate effectively by phone, e-mail and in person.
- Demonstrate tact and diplomacy when resolving concerns.
