Within Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), Supportive Care services are provided by health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer, by providing support and expert care from the time of cancer diagnosis through treatment and beyond. The team of professionals working in CCA are leaders in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care. The Rehabilitation Oncology Team is part of CCA’s Supportive Care South. The team’s occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech language pathologists and therapy assistants collaborate closely with each other and other health care professionals to develop and offer programming, services, and patient education materials. The rehabilitation team located out of the Holy Cross Centre is looking for a casual Therapy Assistant (TA) to join the team. If you are a team player with an eagerness to develop and apply your clinical skills in cancer care, this job is for you. Under general supervision of the Rehabilitation Medicine Manager South, this temporary part-time position is responsible for providing direct patient care (via in-person visits, groups, and virtual care), while also fulfilling departmental administrative roles (such as supply ordering and management). Patient care responsibilities include delivering exercise programs, lymphedema management, using modalities for symptom management, teaching self-management techniques, assisting patients with adaptive equipment. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. Caseloads and days of work for all positions within the Rehabilitation Oncology department may change based on operational needs. We are currently looking for a TA who can work Monday to Friday from 08:00-16:15pm.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Heart & Stroke Foundation BLS Health Care Provider Certification by first day of work. Within the last year, a placement or working experience in an outpatient ( private practice clinic, home care) in one or more of the following areas of practice: Orthopedics/ MSK, neurorehabilitation, palliative care and/ or oncology. You must have strong communication skills and computer skills especially with Microsoft Suite. You must be able to work effectively within a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team. You need to have effective time management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least two years working experience in oncology, orthopedics, home care and/ or palliative care in an urban adult inpatient or outpatient setting. Experience with compression therapy for edema management (such as Coban and Comprilan bandaging). Experience with computer-based charting software ( ARIA, Sunrise Clinical Manager, Meditech, Connect Care). Experience with virtual care. Experience facilitating, teaching and/ or leading groups.
