Position Summary : This course provides an overview of historical and social movements which have led to current inclusive teaching practices. The course critically assess es how society views ability and disability in educational contexts and challenges Teacher Candidates to consider how children are "differently-abled" rather than “disabled” by adopting a strengths-based perspective. Teacher Candidates will develop teaching practices to support all students. The course content will vary in its focus on curriculum expectations, learning, and teaching at the different grade levels, depending on Teacher Candidates’ program division (Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate).

Successful candidate will work with the course lead in order to provide consistency across sections.

Assets for a successful candidate: Doctoral degree in education or related discipline; post-secondary teaching experience in teacher education; Teaching in Ontario schools at both the primary, junior, and intermediate levels; Work as a Special Education Resource Teacher in Ontario schools; Special Education Specialist AQ

Qualifications – Required: Master’s degree in education or related discipline; Bachelor of Education and/or K – 12 Teaching Certification; K – 12 teaching experience; Evidence of leadership and/or scholarship in the area of Special Education
