Your Opportunity:
The Public Health Inspector II Land Use Specialist is responsible for reviewing and providing comment to land use applications within Edmonton zone Rural. This may include subdivisions applications, contaminated site review, and municipal land use reviews/requests, zoning requests. As well, the specialist will advocate and seek opportunities for public health involvement with Healthy Communities by Design with new community development or changes.The Specialist will work closely and communicate with the Program Manager and Coordinator on a routine basis and will be responsible to provide accurate and specific briefings and issue overviews for AHS officials including the Medical Officer of Health, Executive, and Senior Management in addition to Rural Program staff. Job duties includes attending meetings and public forums that may occur after regular working hours. The specialist will also participate on the Provincial Land Use committee.The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate examples of relationship building with external partners and exercise tact, diplomacy, and professional approach in challenging or conflictual situations that may arise during the course of duties.The Public Health Inspector II will also be responsible for a reduced general inspection district within Edmonton Zone Rural.The Public Health Inspector II is expected to provide coverage for other specialists upon request and may be asked to undertake other specialties as a Public Health Inspector II as directed by Program Management.
Description:
As a Public Health Inspector II and appointed Executive Officer under the authority of the Public Health Act, you will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive environmental public health program. As a Public Health Inspector II, you will have advanced technical expertise in the areas of public health epidemiology, environmental science and engineering, and scientific research. In addition to the duties required for the enforcement of the Public Health Act, you will act as a zone lead responsible for specialized technical advice and services in one or more of the environmental public health service delivery areas on a zone/provincial basis. You will support individual and community wellness through monitoring inspections, disease surveillance, consultation and enforcement of the Public Health Act and regulations.
Required Qualifications:Completion of Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or in a related field of study plus a recognized Environmental Health technical program. Completion of certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada). Active Member in Good Standing with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
Additional Required Qualifications:As required.
Preferred Qualifications:The successful candidate may possess further education or credentials in related fields. Familiarity with EPH roles in land use, HCBD, and contaminated sites is an asset.
