Job Description

The House of Commons' Digital Service and Real Property is currently looking to staff the Senior Strategist, Cyber Security Operations position. 

The Cybersecurity Operations Strategist plays a pivotal role in developing operational strategies to safeguard the House of Commons’ digital assets from cyber threats. Within a modern Security Operations Centre (SoC), you'll spearhead the design of proactive measures to prevent breaches, manage incident responses, and bolster security protocols. Your responsibilities extend to analyzing emerging threats, overseeing day-to-day SOC activities, and coordinating cross-functional teams. Reporting directly to the Director of Cyber Security, you'll provide comprehensive reports, drive continuous improvements, ensure regulatory compliance, and conduct thorough risk assessments, thereby significantly contributing to the protection of House of Commons’ assets against cyber threats.

Success in this role hinges on your strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, concepts, and best practices, coupled with proficiency in working with a variety of security technologies and tools, such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, SOAR, endpoint protection, firewalls, and network security devices. Additionally, familiarity with industry-leading security frameworks and standards like the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls is essential. Your ability to lead the analysis of complex security incidents, threats, and vulnerabilities, coupled with strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail in identifying and addressing security issues, will be pivotal in ensuring the success of cybersecurity operations.

As part of the Cyber Security team, you'll work in an environment where staying updated on technology trends is essential. This role operates within a 24/7 support model, requiring flexibility to work irregular hours, overtime, and provide on-call support as needed.

Qualifications

Education :

Successfully completed a university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience. Working towards or hold a security certification such as: Relevant security certifications such as: Certified SOC Manager (CSM)CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)CISM (Certified Information Security Manager)GIAC (Global Information Assurance Certification)

Experience:

Extensive experience within cybersecurity operations, including a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role within a security operations center (SOC) or a similar environment; Hands-on experience with major security incident response procedures, forensic analysis, and threat hunting techniques; Demonstrated expertise in leading and managing teams successfully; Skilled in developing operational strategies to improve the maturity, effectiveness, and efficiency of cybersecurity operations centers; Experience conducting penetration tests and vulnerability assessments to identify weaknesses in digital assets, such as business applications, networks, and data confidentiality; Demonstrated experience and understanding of cybersecurity principles, concepts, and best practices, with a track record of effectively developing and implementing robust security measures to protect organizational assets; Proven ability to effectively working with a wide range of security technologies and tools, such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, SOAR, endpoint protection solutions, firewalls, and various network security devices, to enhance the security; Experience building and applying best practice compliance practices using industry-leading security frameworks and standards, such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls.
