JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Manager, Fire Protection based in Pickering, Ontario.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Security & Emergency Services Operations the Manager, Fire Protection is accountable for leading teams of fire professionals towards ensuring a fire safe environment at the Nuclear Sites, and ensuring fire protection systems and processes are in place and function according to all regulations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Define testing, inspection and maintenance requirements for fire protection systems. Monitor and evaluate results. Maintain configuration control on fire systems and features. Oversee fire operations crews and Ensure work task completion and verify for compliance Procure fire protection systems and features from qualified vendors. Develop plans and procedures for combating, suppressing and reporting fires. Evaluate design changes for compliance with fire protection codes, standards and commitments. Develop fire inspection programs. Liaise with local fire department and insurance representatives. Define availability requirements for fire protection systems and response to impairments. Monitor site for compliance with regulatory requirements and develop plans to restore compliance as necessary. Implement controls on combustible materials and ignition sources. Define the process for the review of potential fire hazards generated by operating and maintenance work. Provide advice to plant personnel including space allocation coordinators. Develop the technical surveillance program for fire protection systems and carry out surveillance. Implement fire protection training and drills and execute training coordination for staff Investigate fires. Evaluate whether fire fighting equipment and personnel are adequate to protect the site and its assets. Oversee Combustible Material Safety (CMS) Compliance Oversee Ignition Source Permitting Work directly with Fire Programs and Fire Engineering Process and Action of Station Condition Records (SCR’s) Facilitate and collaboration with the Corrective Action Planning/Process (CAP’s) Fulfill the role of Incident Commander for emergency response to nuclear and non nuclear emergency incidents Provide leadership to innovation projects and workplace process improvement

EDUCATION

2 Year Diploma in Fire Protection; or Business/Leadership Administration; or OFC Company Officer Diploma; or combination of relevant educational and work experiences

QUALIFICATIONS

3-5 Years of relevant workplace experience in a similar role NFPA 1021 Fire Inspector I, II, III, IV (Preferred) Certification – IFSAC or ProBoard NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I, II Certification - IFSAC or ProBoard Formal Incident Command Training. i.e. Bluecard IC, Effective Command Familiarity with National Fire Code and National Building Code Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset Industrial Installation Experience – Nuclear is an asset Have a valid driver's license and have ability to successfully acquire standard first aid and CPR certificates. Have the ability to successfully obtain a Level II Security Clearance as facilitated by OPG.
