About the role

As a Blaster you will be responsible for the daily loading and firing of blasts and providing support, mentoring and developing the skills of the team to meet the needs of Mining Services in accordance with agreed goals for the business. You will be a member of a dynamic team delivering quality service. This Role will be on a 7/7 rotation day shift only but could be subject to change. The project sits within the Sudbury city limits and is an open pit project.

What you will be doing

The role has four focus areas, Safety, Health, Environment & Security. This role will require demonstrated leadership in all areas of SHES. This will range from displaying and mentoring the appropriate behaviors in others to ensuring compliance with the various systems. Customer interface will be required. 

• Ensure the safety and protection of the Orica employees, customers, the public and Security
• Creating and maintaining a culture of employee empowerment, involvement and continuous improvement 
• Setting and communicating targets and results to all team members 
• To deliver the total load service operational requirements to the volume, service type and quality specified by the business and/or marketing to satisfy customer expectations 
• Ensuring compliance to quality specifications 
• Assisting to establish and maintain quality assurance procedures 
• Attending audits and ensuring resulting actions are carried out within an agreed time frame 
• Maximizing asset utilization and availability within agreed customer service levels 
• Contributing to project scopes with customer and Site Managers 
• Attend mine daily planning meetings as required
• This role does require the individual to be flexible around priorities as these may change rapidly

• Experience in working with multiple initiation systems such as; Non-Electric systems (Handidet), EBS (ikon, Remote Blasting Systems)
• 5 years relevant experience with similar position responsibilities.
• Knowledge in Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, Shot Plus and the Internet. 
• Valid G license
• Generic Front Line Supervisor Certificate- MTCU Program-770141 is an asset, and MTCU surface minor.
• Knowledge/experience in Transportation of dangerous Goods
• Must be flexible to customer demands including scheduling and working around weather changes.
• Knowledge of vehicle driving and basic vehicle maintenance.
• Reliable and dependable.
• Considerate personality to adapt pleasantly in the presence of customers.
• Ability to prioritize various projects, ongoing daily tasks and high priority situations to maximize efficiency.
• Provide assistant to other team members on a daily basis.

Physical Requirements

• Work Environment involves being outside in all types of weather (extreme cold).
• Lifting up to 60 pounds.
• Carrying 50 pounds or more of product or other materials.
• Pushing/Pulling in working with equipment. 
• Other Activities include frequent bending and squatting during preparation for shots.
