As a Speech Language Pathologist with VCH you will:
Work in a team based environment. Assess, diagnose and treat the full range of communication and swallowing disorders for adult clients in home, facilities, community or clinic settings. Complete client reports, educate client/family, provides counseling and consultation, and present lectures. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, risk management and research, and provide orientation to new team members and Speech-Language Pathology students.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Current full registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of British Columbia. Two (2) years recent related speech language practice dealing with adults with acquired communication disorders and dysphagia, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid BC Driver’s License required. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Broad knowledge of evidence based practice. Broad knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in healthcare. Broad knowledge of research process and methodology. Sound knowledge base of neurological conditions, complex chronic diseases and acquired brain injury management. Basic knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools. Demonstrated ability to understand and influence group and inter-group processes, decision making and problem solving. Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with clients and families in order to explore issues that are beyond the initial presented concerns. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families, team members, other groups and community agency personnel. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to operate related computer equipment. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload. Demonstrated ability to determine and deal effectively with urgent situations, clients/families/residents. Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver presentations. Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other healthcare professionals. Physical ability to perform the duties of the job. Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for treatment.
