Overview

The Senior Operations Supervisor will be responsible for Event Changeovers: planning, coordinating, supervising and performing all conversion functions. They will assist and recommend during the hiring process and perform training of new staff. This position will assist the Operations Manager, Event Manager/Event Coordinator with projects. The Senior Operations Supervisor will be responsible for payroll sign-in sheets and completing payroll as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, computer and communication skills along with being able to work within a team environment. 

This role will pay an hourly wage of $26 to $42.

About the Venue

The City took centre stage when the Encana Events Centre opened in Spring 2008. In 2021, the Encana Events Centre became the Ovintiv Events Centre (see news release )

The Ovintiv Events Centre is a state-of-the-art, multi-events centre with 4,500 permanent seats, and 27 VIP Luxury Suites, that is the premier entertainment facility for the entire British Columbia and Alberta Peace Region.

Responsibilities

Responsible for Event Changeovers; planning, coordinating, supervising, and performing all conversion functions. Assists / recommends hiring and is able to perform training to staff. Perform rink maintenance. Supervise operations staff for non-event tasks. Maintain and clean changeover equipment and areas. Assist Operations Manager, Event Manager/Event Coordinator with projects. Adhere to all Policies and Procedures Perform all of the duties outlined in a safe manner following established Facility Procedures, Occupational, Health & Safety Rules, and Violence in the Workplace policies and . Regulations, . WHMIS, . Ensure staff complies with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act Assist the Event Manager/Event Coordinator with all facets of Event Coordination Keep detailed inventory of facility supplies and order as necessary. Monitor and delegate assigned tasks. Must communicate and work harmoniously with all other departments. Create policy and procedures for operations department in coordination with manager/director of operations. Must use MicroMain effectively and efficiently. Responsible for payroll for operations and housekeeping staff. Responsible for payroll sign-in sheets (check and verify all sheets), and completing payroll as needed. Must complete weekly reports when assigned. Work closely with building engineers to ensure proper maintenance and performance of all equipment. Assists with overall operation and maintenance of the arena and all systems. This includes HVAC, sound, lighting, fire protection, life safety, workplace safety, communications, scoreboard, etc. Assists with overall operation and maintenance of the arena ice surface and all systems (glass, stanchions, time clocks, . This includes maintaining the ice surface in excellent condition, maintaining the ice resurfacer (Zamboni), assigning dressing rooms to rentals and making sure they stay in good condition, and running the ice resurfacer (Zamboni) Assist with strategic planning for building improvements and upkeep and developing yearly capital improvements. Must be able to setup and troubleshoot in-house audio-visual equipment for small events. Responsible for exterior maintenance and snow removal. Other duties as assigned by Director of Operations

Qualifications

Minimum three years working experience in facility setups and changeovers including ice, conventions, concerts, trade shows and sporting events etc. Working knowledge of operations equipment including staging, audiovisual, lighting, truss, rigging, small equipment tools, pallet jacks, forklifts, ice resurfacer, edger’s etc. Experience supervising and leading up to 50 employees in performance of setup / changeover and housekeeping functions. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented with ability to handle multiple assignments. Experience managing sub-contracted companies. Capable of working long / flexible shifts including nights, weekends and/or holidays. Ability to use a computer and learn various software programs. Ability to walk for long periods of time. Must have valid driver’s license. Must have valid BC Refrigeration Operator ticket or better, within one year of start date. Must have valid WHIMIS ticket within three months of start date. Must have valid First Aid ticket, trained in CPR and AEDs within three months of start date. Must have valid forklift, fall arrest and aerial boom tickets within three months of start date. Must have valid confined space ticket within three months of start date. Must complete a criminal record check. Must have a valid crowd management certificate within three months of start date. Ability to use and train other staff with the use of power tools. Ability to train and guide casual staff. Ability to use an ice resurfacer (Zamboni) and perform maintenance to arena ice. Ability to setup audio visual equipment and a working knowledge of clear com or XLR Experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry skills related to the facility. Must be able to work as part of a team.

Work environment:

The essential functions of this position are performed both indoors and outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud.
