Certified Meter Mechanic

The Certified Meter Mechanic /Tester assists with the installation, change, removal, repair, inspection, testing and calibration of all types of meters and metering equipment for correct wiring and accuracy of metering; operation of meter test equipment according to documented procedures; and troubleshooting to determine faults in meters, metering equipment and test boards. The Certified Meter Mechanic/Tester complies with Measurement Canada standards and may provide assistance in verifying meters and meter installations. These duties will be performed to the level of the applicable skills and knowledge of the incumbent, under the direction of a Certified Crew Leader, Meter.
The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
From work orders, specifications, standards, instructions and analysis of prints, sketches and diagrams, install, change and remove all types of meters, instrument transformers and metering equipment and troubleshoot to determine faults in meters, metering equipment and test boards Inspect and test all types of meter installations for correct wiring of meters, metering equipment and accuracy of metering Assist department of Measurement Canada Inspectors in verifying meters and meter installation Repair all types of meters and metering equipment; adjust, calibrate and conduct tests Perform routine maintenance on Departmental equipment and machinery Repair and make alterations to test boards Wire and assemble test boards from prepared plans and diagrams Provide direction and guidance to lower classifications Assist in high voltage testing Assist in repairing street lights and flat rate relays Investigate and report on system anomalies Update and prepare reports, records and documents pertaining to the position Operate a vehicle requiring a class G licence and associated equipment related to the position. Follow regulatory procedures Follow employer’s procedures Engage in job planning with Crew Leader and/or Supervisor Follow job plan Identify defects, contraventions and dangers Use initiative to reduce risk Apply discretion to solve OH&S problems Report unresolved problems Work cooperatively with co-workers, crew leaders, supervisors and othersCOMPETENCIES:
Graduation from an accredited post-secondary institution with an Electrical, Electro-Mechanical or Electronics Technician/Technologist diploma Fully Qualified Meter Mechanic Must have a valid class "G" Driver’s License in the Province of Ontario Eligible for O.A.C.E.T.T. Accreditation Knowledgeable in the electric utility metering field preferred Familiar with the IESO, Measurement Canada and Electricity Act and Regulations is an asset Demonstrate experience in a variety of business computer software such as Microsoft office Able to work independently and in a team environment always creating positive relationships and interacts effectively with others Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Safety performance and familiarity with utility safety regulations and practices; adopts safe and efficient work practices, participates in job planning, risk reduction, and reports problems Customer Service and Trust; excels in providing timely and effective services and exceeding customer expectations Leadership; keeps people informed, promotes team morale and productivity Adherence to Policies and Procedures; complies with policies, practices and procedures Dependability; reliable and counted on to get the work done, ability to work with minimal supervision Quality of Work; work is organized, detailed, in-depth, and is consistently of high quality Volume of Work completed far outreaches the expectations; adapts well to changing volumes of work and/or pace of work and proactively seeks out additional work Knowledge of Work; demonstrates an in-depth level of knowledge regarding the job, current role and accountabilities Problem Solving; takes into account all relevant information when making a decision Collaborating; stresses collaboration and interacts effectively with others-
