Design and Drafting Technologist/Foam Cutter

Responsibilities:
Prepares detailed, accurate technical drawings for refractory layouts, anchor layouts, and formwork in accordance with the Alliance Refractories drafting standards.
Prepare detailed fabrication drawings.
Organizing and control of all drawings in accordance with the Alliance Refractories Standards.
Check and verify design drawings to ensure adherence to specifications and design data
Operate a CNC hotwire machine to cut Styrofoam.
Assembly of formwork for required shop and field work.
Quality Control of formwork and cast refractory to ensure all products are within tolerance and compliant with the Alliance Refractories Standards.
General Shop Quality Control of anchor layouts and casted refractory.
Development and controlling of Inspection and Test Plans for shop work.
Prepares material take-offs, as required, based on technical drawings.
Visits construction project sites as required to take measurements and create drawings and designs.
Performs required design calculations.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. However, in this position mentorship and guidance to more junior staff members’ is expected. Responsible for ensuring all cast refractory is in accordance with the applicable specifications (when applicable).

Diploma in a relevant engineering technology field or adequate skill and knowledge from work experience.
Working experience in producing drawings, designs, and formwork for refractory or related work is considered an asset.
The job requires good written and oral communication skills, in English, to convey facts and information clearly.
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of 2D and 3D geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Experienced and competent in Autodesk AutoCAD.
Experienced and competent in 3D modeling Software Autodesk Inventor (experience in Autodesk AutoCAD 3D is considered an asset).
Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, such as Word and Excel.

Understands and is able to read and interpret mechanical, structural, refractory, and other technical drawings. Perform simple design calculations.
Develops drawing templates and blocks as required. Drawings are named and filed in accordance with the company standards.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Requires concentration for sustained periods when analyzing and reviewing a wide range of routine and semi-routine documentation, facts, and details in order to develop routine and semi-routine technical drawings. Frequently required to stand and walk. Dexterity is required when operating the computer and equipment. Some heavy lifting is required when working with the Styrofoam products. Awkward positions and repetitive motion when assembling formwork is required. Some site visits will require awkward positions in order to take required measurements and climbing ladders and stairs all while wearing the proper PPE.
