The Opportunity

As part of the Canada Gas Operations teamyou’ll apply your critical thinking and technical skills to keep our natural gas compressor stations, measurement stations, and pipeline assets operating safely and reliably. Our Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines business includes over 43,000 kilometers of existing pipeline, 120 compressor stations, and approximately 1,500 measurement stations across Canada.

We are seeking a skilled Damage Prevention Technician to join our Canada Gas Operations team in Airdrie, AB. Reporting to the Wheatland Area Manager, the Damage Prevention Technician will be responsible for the completion of proactive pipeline damage prevention activities as well as a variety of operations and maintenance tasks at compressor, measurement, and pipeline sites.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent troubleshooting, problem solving, and communication skills.

What you’ll do

Triage and respond to Alberta One Call (Utility Safety) requests.

Locate pipeline in accordance with TC Energy operating procedures using industry standard locatingequipment.

Perform gas leak surveys

Act as onsite TC Energy representative for ground disturbance work encroaching on TC Energy assets.

Act as onsite TC Energy representative for foreign crossings of our natural gas pipelines.

Proactivelyidentify encroachment areas of concern.

Communicate and provide damage prevention education to contractors, the general public, landowners, and government agencies relative to gas operations.

Work with contractors and other stakeholders to mitigate risk.

Assist other technicians at TC Energy facilities by performing routine operating and maintenance duties.

Operate and maintain test equipment.

Read and interpret alignment sheets.

Provide active control duties as it pertains to the management of contractor activities.

Respond to emergency situations.

Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new notifications, etc. in SAP.

Provide on call support to the region.

Other tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

2 years of relevant work experience

Experience inspecting/managing foreign crossings of pipeline infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications

Experience repairing pipeline leaks

Mechanical knowledge, skills and experience

Technical diploma or apprenticeship training

Valve maintenance experience

Experience operating and maintaining high pressure natural gas pipelines and/or facilities

Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and/or SAP experience

Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review

Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing

Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes

Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home

Participate in an on-call schedule

Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures

Driving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position. Following a conditional offer of employment, the Company will check the motor vehicle records of any job applicant when driving is an essential job function.
