What you’ll do At Capilano University, we offer a unique and rewarding opportunity for a Counsellor to make a significant impact on the lives of our students. This position spans from September 3, 2024 to August 29, 2025 and will work, in-person, out of our North Vancouver campus, three days per week, including Wednesdays and Fridays. Vacation and professional development activities will take place from May through August 2025.

In this role you will provide vital individual counselling to our diverse student body, addressing a comprehensive spectrum of mental health, career development and student success challenges. You’ll have the chance to nurture personal and academic growth by developing and facilitating workshops on various mental health and student success topics. Your expertise will not be confined to one-on-one interactions; you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with our dedicated faculty and staff to address and improve student concerns, fostering an environment of holistic support. What you’ll bring The ideal candidate for this position should possess a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology or its equivalent. Previous experience in providing counselling services within a university or college setting is considered a valuable asset. Additionally, the candidate should have received training and gained practical experience in single-session and short-term therapy, showcasing an ability to efficiently address the immediate needs of students. Any teaching experience is also seen as an advantage. Demonstrated experience in working with diverse populations is highly desired, highlighting the importance of cultural competency. Furthermore, a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of common mental health concerns specific to post-secondary students is crucial. Finally, familiarity with student success strategies is expected, as this knowledge will be instrumental in providing holistic support to our student community.
