The Instrument Technician is a key position at Trans Mountain that will be expected to provide Operational Support in a multi skilled work environment that promotes public safety, environmental stewardship, and pipeline integrity.
In this role, the Instrumentation Technician would be required to utilize maintenance tracking software to document calibration and functionality testing as completed on protective devices, custody transfer instrumentation and pipeline equipment used for both personal and equipment safety. The technician will be expected to work in both Operations and other trades designations as suitably trained and competent.
This position will be based at the Edmonton Terminal location and will report to the Manager, Edmonton Terminal.
Key Responsibilities
Provide Instrumentation support and maintenance to ensure system reliability. Install, calibrate, trouble-shoot and maintain process instrumentation, communication networks and control equipment including flow computers, tank gauging systems, custody transfer metering and associated equipment. Trouble-shoot electrical circuits, communication networks and control equipment and associated schematics, files, and as-built drawings. Analyze, interpret, and utilize graphic and other information contained in SCADA displays and P&ID drawings. Provide Operational support to ensure throughput and system reliability. Support Emergency Response initiatives and program.Qualifications and Professional Experience
High School completion. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a related field. Journeyman Instrumentation Certificate - Interprovincial Standard (IP) is required. Journeyman Electrician Red Seal Certificate would be an asset. Understanding of Canadian Electrical Code requirements, Process Control and Hydro Test fundamentals are required. Commissioning and Start-Up experience would be an asset. Maintain a high regard for personal safety, safety of company assets and employees, and the public. Availability for overtime after regular working hours. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must be a collaborator with a positive attitude. Initiative-taking, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision. Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Diligence is critical. Ability to work well under pressure and manage strict deadlines. Strong organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
