What will you be doing?

As a Senior Service Engineer, Propulsion Controls, you will perform field service work activities related to propulsion equipment, including installation, repair and maintenance of the control systems of gearboxes, OD boxes, controllable pitch propellers, thrusters, and waterjets.

This position reports to the Field Service Resources Coordinator.

Wärtsilä, a SMART technology company, is seeking the ideal candidate to join our fast- paced, high performance Field Service Operations Team (AMER). Candidates are expected to display a high level of critical thinking and reasoning skills, identify as high performers, as well as being self-motivating.

Accountabilities:

Responsible for performing complex and advanced troubleshooting on specific equipment and equipment families in relation to Wärtsilä systems. Acts as a Senior Engineer for complex marine installations and as a system specialist to lead product related commissioning activities as required. Perform advanced troubleshooting on site to isolate and find root causes of failures in propulsion electrical and hydraulic equipment. Lead and manage assigned self/team while on site, interacting with the customer to arrange for proper schedule to achieve desired scope. Keep track of work details and provide in depth reports including all the necessary details. (Measurements, photos, way of working, investigations, etc.). Keep track and provide an accounting of time, spare parts used. Proactively advise and promote available products and solutions to customers. Provide internal and external work reports according to Wärtsilä standards and perform site audits. Proactively advises and promotes available products and solutions to customers. In addition to the above duties and responsibilities, the post holder must be prepared to undertake such additional duties within their capabilities which may result from changing circumstances, but which may not of necessity, change the general character or level of responsibility of the post.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Interact professionally with customers during the work execution. Perform internal and external progress status of the assigned work. Creating the Service Work Reports. Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä QEHS guidelines and site procedures. Follow-up and report on the status of work orders to customers and/or internal stakeholders. Continuously seek solutions according to best practices.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

A safety-first mindset Preferred MSc or BSc in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering Experience in many aspects of marine propulsion systems Good time management and organizational skills - able to effectively manage a dynamic workload. Understanding the importance of quality Technical problem-solving skills Good ability to cooperate and communicate with other people & Good command of English, both oral and written Experience in low voltage automation, including PLC, Micro Processor, and Analog systems. Understanding of Hydraulic and Pneumatic control systems.

For applicants that reside in BC, Canada the annual salary wage range is $75k CAD - $98k CAD.

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, individual skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration of internal equity.

For applicants that reside in CA/CO/WA, the hourly wage range is $45-$55.

For applicants that reside in NY, the salary/salary range/hourly wage range is $43-$53.

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods. Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.

Travel Requirements:

This position requires a 70% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfill these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.
