Brandt is currently seeking a Tooling & Automation Manager position in our Regina location. This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the timely design, manufacturing and implementation of Tooling and Automation systems used by Brandt manufacturing. The combined department will integrate Tooling and Automation initiatives to work harmoniously and make Brandt an industry leader in factory setup and automation.

The department will be comprised of a group of technical staff with responsibilities to schedule the Tooling and Automaton activities to meet the overall corporate requirements. It involves hands-on activities with automated equipment regarding the operations, programming, troubleshooting, commissioning and productivity of robotic welding systems and other automated and integrated equipment.

Required Skills

Duties & Responsibilities:

Lead a group of technical staff, giving necessary mentorship and feedback as required Identify growth and training opportunities for staff development Work to create a positive work environment within the department, as well as with other departments and external clients Work closely with Design Engineering to: Ensure the products can be built in Brandt’s facilities using Brandt’s equipment Provide purchasing the necessary information to source specialty processes that Brandt cannot do in house. Recommend equipment that needs to be purchased to make products in house Recommend design changes to reduce the labor hours of manufacture products Recommend design changes to improve quality of final product Identification of Tooling and Automation opportunities; make recommendations to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product Evaluation, selection, and commissioning of Tooling and Automated equipment Create and maintain necessary standards, policies and procedures for the Tooling and Automation department. Provide direction to Design Engineering and oversee the design of the jigs, fixtures and automation solutions to ensure that Jigs and fixtures: are designed to result in lower manufacture times, reduced plant footprint, and quicker change outs times are capable of building more than one part whenever possible meet budget, both time and cost Monitor ECNs that affect Tooling and Automation and ensure changes are implemented at the correct time Design jigs and fixtures that are not part of the product design process Work with Brandt’s jigs and fixtures calculator to ensure each jig fits Brandt’s payback requirement Develop, maintain, monitor and report on the tooling budget Develop effective metrics to measure departmental performance Maintain list of approved jigs and fixtures prioritized based on payback or quality needed Provide PDM group details to setup Routings within ERP system Work with Plant Design department on plant layout to manufacture new products Communicate manufacturing plan with operations on new product entering plant Other duties as assigned

Required Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent Minimum of 5 years of design or manufacturing engineering experience, with preference to Tooling design and automation initiatives Experience in CAD/CAM is required. Experience with Solidworks is preferred. Knowledge of commonly used practices and equipment used in manufacturing. Knowledge of Brandt facilities, manufacturing equipment, and product Must be self-motivated Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Experience in supervision Must be familiar with quality and lean principles Must be well organized with multi-tasking abilities Strong Project management skills Attention to detail
