Role Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Hardware & Mechanical Design, you will be an integral member of the development team and will play a pivotal part in the creation of product architecture, design, and specifications, determining efficient and effective products that meet customer and NDI needs. Together with the R&D team, you will ensure efficient design and architecture for the manufacturing, quality, and sustainability of the products. As an Optical Developer, you will research the latest technologies and techniques while playing an instrumental role that meets customer requirements for product innovation.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Detailed understanding of the relationship between device design, materials properties,process, device performance, cost, development timelines, and customer expectations. The focus will be on optical systems but may also include other non-optical aspects of our products. Conduct hands on research and analysis to optimize optical components and systems. Assist with the design, selection, and specification of optical components. Liaise with Sales and Marketing, Advanced Research, Development, Project Management, and Manufacturing to maximize product specifications and manufacturability, while minimizing time to market. Develop understanding of customer, product, and manufacturing challenges, to ensure successful and timely resolution of complex issues. Participate in design reviews including but not limited to, design for cost, design for test, design for manufacturability, and design for assembly, at key points throughout the product development process while ensuring the commercial viability of the product. 

Education and Professional Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in physics, Engineering Physics, Optical Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent). Minimum 2+ years of related professional experience. Experience in system design.

Proficiency in simulation and analysis. Proactive self-starter with a hands-on approach to tasks, troubleshooting and problem-solving. Capability to plan, analyze, and critically evaluate. Ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with many stakeholders. Ability to present technical concepts to various levels of customers and stakeholders. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to read, interpret and create product specifications, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Experience in an ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 environment.
