SerDes Architect

Lightmatter builds chips for artificial intelligence computing. Our architecture leverages unique properties of light to enable fast and efficient inference and training engines. If you're a collaborative engineer or scientist who has a passion for innovation, solving challenging technical problems and doing impactful work...work like building the world's first optical computers, consider joining the team at Lightmatter

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated high-speed SerDes architect to help develop the next-generation photonic communication fabric alongside a team of world-class scientists and engineers.

In this role, you will be defining how compute and memory chiplets interface with our photonic communication elements power efficiently at high speed. You will also work closely with the analog and photonic teams to turn your designs into important building blocks for photonic-enabled HPC and AI compute systems.

Join a tight-knit team where each individual’s contributions directly influence the success of the company and product. You'll have the opportunity to build a new kind of computer from the ground up and to solve groundbreaking challenges along the way. Work with people who love to build and who thrive in technically diverse environments where great ideas are prioritized.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with teams across the company including Analog, Digital, Photonics, Packaging, and Systems to architect Lightmatter products for high performance computing (HPC) and other communications systems
  • Working with an external design house, develop new SerDes IP specifically targeted to 3D-stacked photonic transceivers.
  • Subject matter expert for SerDes development and IP procurement
  • Translate customer requirements into system-level models and detailed specifications
  • Work closely with the Analog Electronics Team to set electrical and timing specifications of integrated circuits
  • Design integrated circuits for prototypes and high volume production systems

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 10+ years experience designing integrated circuits for SerDes or similar applications
  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Deep knowledge of the state of art and industry roadmaps for SerDes and other communications interfaces
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving skills in problems that do not have obvious solutions
  • Experience with advanced node FinFET technologies
  • Experience with 2.5D/3D packaging and TSV technologies
  • Experience with discrete time filters and basic DSP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with optical transceivers and optical interface circuits such as modulator drivers and transimpedance amplifiers
  • In-depth knowledge of standard communication IPs
  • Multiple tapeouts of commercial devices in advanced node technologies

Benefits

  • Comprehensive Health Care Plan
  • Group Retirement Savings Plan matching
  • Life Insurance
  • Generous Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Training & Development
  • Flexible, hybrid workplace model
  • Stock Option Plan
