Wright Tree Service of Canada’s operations include safety-sensitive positions and safety-sensitive worksites. Each employee, contractor, subcontractor and supplier performing work or carrying out work on Wright Tree Service of Canada’s behalf, where the work includes a safety-sensitive position or is performed or carried out at a safety-sensitive worksite, must have, administer and enforce an alcohol and drug policy and testing program. 

This position will be located throughout British Columbia.

Responsibilities (but not limited to):

Work and train with Certified Utility Arborists to assist on work duties. Assigns, instructs and directs tree trimmers and park groundworkers. Oversees the planting, pruning, topping, feeling, cabling, and climbing of trees. Operates power saws and spraying equipment. Inspects trees, develops a tree inventory and determines appropriate action. Advises and assists in turf management program. Lays out jobs and estimates manpower and equipment needs. Recommends new equipment and requisitions supplies. Assist with preparing information for budget requests. Assists with maintaining records and reports for arborist maintenance program.

Requirements:

Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and on a team in a fast-paced environment. Ability to read and complete daily paperwork. Knowledge of principles and practices of tree maintenance and arboriculture. Thorough knowledge of safety in the industry, as well as the use of equipment including power and hand tools. Knowledge of trees, insects, and diseases in order to provide recommendations for proper care Valid ISA certification. Experience within the tree care industry, including aerial operator and/or climbing skills, pruning experience, and tree-identification skills. Degree in forestry or related field and/or experience within the utility tree care industry. Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record, air brakes endorsement a plus Species identification skills and invasive species knowledge, plus knowledge of tree characteristics and growth rates is a plus. CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid and TDG certifications preferred. Ability to work independently and self-motivate with good time management. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Flexibility with traveling in and out of town, via plane and/or vehicle. Maintain a high level of technical knowledge and retain valid First Aid certification. Ability to travel and work in rugged terrain and inclement weather. Proficient in map navigation skills and orienteering. Experience with Microsoft Office and data collection software (GIS experience a plus). Assistance may be required during major storm events. Applicant must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
