Why is this role important?

Under the direction of the Manager, the Team Lead, UX/UI Design leads the digital design practice and ensures a high-quality and consistent user experience of CIHI’s digital products that align with stakeholder and business goals.

The Team Lead directs the creation, maintenance and implementation of UX and UI design standards within CIHI’s design system. The lead supervises a team of UX and UI designers, and works with UX teams, IT, CIHI business areas, and others to deliver timely UX and UI design activities and guidance to support product and content development and implementation within CIHI’s technology framework.

The Team Lead works closely with other Team Leads to develop a comprehensive UX strategy that aligns with CIHI’s strategic and digital goals. The lead champions industry best practices, improves and implements CIHI’s Design Language, and enables CIHI’s usability, findability, and digital accessibility objectives.

What you'll do

1.Provide leadership and coaching to team members and supervise, coordinate, and monitor their work, workload, and performance. Provide input on performance evaluation to the Manager.
2.Foster a creative and collaborative environment within the team and with other teams in the department.
3.Provide guidance and direction to team members to support the completion of assigned tasks, which may include discovery activities, sketches, wireframes, low- and high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, interaction and digital visual design specifications, user flows, site maps, UX reviews, and usability heuristic evaluations.
4.Create, maintain, improve, and document standards for UX and UI design, CIHI’s design language, and operational procedures.
5.Follow industry best practices and implement them as required.
6.Develop and maintain training and tooling plans to ensure new skills and advancement are available to team members.
7.Communicate and promote UX and UI design practices to colleagues, teams and senior leadership across CIHI.
8.Develop and apply a thorough understanding of CIHI’s policies, standards, processes, methodologies and tools for product, platform, and content development.
9.Other duties as assigned

What you'll bring to the table

•College or university degree in user experience design, user interface design, human-computer interaction, interaction design, industrial design, graphic design or other relevant field, or combination of education and experience.
•At least five years’ experience working in UX and UI design for web and mobile.
•1 to 3 years’ experience supervising a team and building a positive work environment, including coaching, mentoring and performance management.
•Excellent communication skills, with experience facilitating and presenting to large groups at all levels of the organization.
•Ability to work effectively on multiple simultaneous tasks in a fast-paced environment.
•Comprehensive understanding of user experience best practices.
•Expert knowledge of UX and UI design standards and design practices including working with design systems, interaction design, discovery, wireframing, mock-ups, prototyping, ideation, iterative design, and facilitating design reviews.
•Knowledge of UX research and testing practices.
•Experience developing, maintaining, and documenting standards and best practices such as design systems, personas, journey maps, lean canvas, co-design templates, and accessibility guidelines.
•Demonstrable experience of successfully executing web and mobile products from concept to completion using a UX process.
•Experience working with cross-functional teams in product and content development, including IT professionals and subject-matter experts.
•Familiarity with information architecture and SEO practices.
•Familiarity with data visualization practices and standards.
•A proven track record and portfolio of excellent design and product outputs that meet user needs, product requirements, and business goals.
•Proficient in a variety of UX tools including Figma, Adobe XD, Mural, and product planning and collaboration tools such as Confluence, Jira, and MS Projects.
•Knowledge of visual design tools, primarily Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
•Knowledge of accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.0 standards).
•Experience in agile product development, design thinking, and Lean UX.
•Fluency in both official languages is an asset.
