Mechanical Technologist

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Mechanical Technologist in our Bedford, NS office. This position includes a broad range of consulting tasks. Candidates must have strong verbal and written communication skills, have a keen interest in a fast-paced work environment, and be proficient in organization, and time/budget management.

The successful applicant must be able to work interchangeably in a team setting, and independently, and will be expected to liaise with professional staff including engineers, subcontractors and clients.
 

Your role within the team:

Work as a member of Bedford, NS office engineering team, under the direction of senior engineering and technologist staff, for the design and layout of mechanical building and industrial systems design. Complete on-the-job training to develop/enhance specialized skills in design and layout. Developing detailed layouts of mechanical piping, plumbing and HVAC systems utilizing engineering design standards, commercial design software and BIM 3D drafting program (Revit). Interpreting equations, calculations and written instructions for equipment and system sizing. Coordination and preparation of project specifications. Participating in technical studies and creation of reports. Contributing to the planning, scheduling and organization of one’s own work to achieve prescribed objectives. Assist in preparation of construction cost estimate through quantification and pricing of materials. Research Vendor equipment offerings to meet specified requirements, find alternate suppliers. Collaborate with other departments for interdisciplinary design coordination, resolving of layout issues and clashes. Assist in field visits during initial design and subsequent construction phases for collection of system information, measurements, and construction progress monitoring. Complete required safety training for job/site specific assignments. Assist in construction phase for review of shop drawings and alterations to construction details.

The ideal candidate:

Registration or eligibility to as a Certified Engineering Technologist, including completion of course work with a BIM/drafting program. Eligibility to obtain PWGSC Reliability security clearance Knowledgeable in BIM software (REVIT) to produce building design drawings used in the construction industry, especially that of mechanical systems. Understanding principles of equipment layouts with respect to installation, servicing and safe operations. Understanding approach to coordinating multi-discipline BIM design teams, familiarity with interpretation of architectural and structural building models. Good understanding of engineering disciplines and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields. Proficient with following standard engineering methods and techniques for design and analysis, including use of engineering software.
