Overview
Westlake Paving & Aggregates, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc., operating in the Okanagan Valley is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Utility Operator to join our team. As the Utility Operator, you will be responsible for the efficient operation of our aggregate pit, ensuring safe and productive handling of materials and equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating heavy machinery such as wheel loaders, excavators, and dozers, along with a strong background in working around crushing equipment.

These positions are based out of our Kelowna location and work sites are throughout the Central Okanagan.
Responsibilities:
Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained, serviced, and repaired as necessary.
Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and other relevant information.
Communicate effectively with other members of the team, including project managers, supervisors, and crew members.
Assist in the training and development of new crew members as needed.
Ensure that all work areas are kept clean and organized.
Operate wheel loaders to efficiently stockpile and load trucks with various materials.
Utilize excavators and dozers for site preparation, material handling, and shaping terrain as required.
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on machinery to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Monitor equipment operation to detect and resolve malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
Work closely with other team members to coordinate tasks and maximize productivity.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar role in the paving and aggregates industry.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with crew members, superintendent, and other stakeholders.
Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and procedures, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and other technical documents.
Proficient in the use of relevant tools and equipment.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Minimum of 5 years of experience operating wheel loaders, with a proven ability to efficiently load and stockpile materials.
Minimum of 3 years of experience operating excavators and/or dozers, demonstrating proficiency in site preparation and material handling tasks.
Minimum of 5 years of experience working around crushing equipment, understanding safety protocols and operational requirements.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines effectively.
