​​Reporting to a Foreman, an Asphalt Rakerman redistributes asphalt mix correctly as it leaves the screed and prepares it for rolling. As a member of the paving crew, an Asphalt Rakerman is responsible for raking asphalt, shoveling excess asphalt, sweeping up debris, and various labor-related duties.​

The start date would be mid-late April or early May, depending on the weather.

General Responsibilities:

Spread asphalt with a rake using efficient techniques while maintaining a steady pace. Employ an asphalt rake to re-distribute asphalt mix, leaving the screed in preparation for rolling. Shovel up excess asphalt and sweep up debris. Be responsible for the proper match points and limits of asphalt mix adjacent to concrete structures, manholes, water valves, and other fixtures within the road surface. Use an asphalt rake to blend and level any seams in the mat, reducing visible marks and seams in the asphalt surface. Measure the road width using measuring tape and string to line the boundaries of the road surface as a paver guide. Assist a Screed Operator with the even distribution of asphalt materials over the road surface. Verify, estimate, and set the angle and depth of the asphalt screen as required. Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials. Ensure the worksite is organized and free of rubble and garbage. Shovel asphalt mix into areas inaccessible to paving machines and compact the mix using rakes and hand tampers. Perform a variety of manual labor tasks, including the use of power and hand tools. Complete a variety of other general labor tasks, such as cleaning and preparing sites. Operate equipment, such as pneumatic hammers, vibrators, tampers, and skid steers, when needed. ,

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications & Experience

High School Diploma or is preferred.  Class 5 Driver’s License; a clean Driver’s Abstract. Minimum of 2 years of experience in asphalt raking on a paving crew. Demonstrate a proficient understanding of asphalt and raking techniques. Knowledge of paving construction methods, asphalt and road construction materials, heavy equipment operation, and industry requirements. Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Valid Class 5 Operator’s License; clean Driver Abstract. Willingness to work out of town and in remote locations, as required.  Willingness to work overtime as required.
