Mentor College is currently seeking a full-time music teacher for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 4 classes for the 2024-2025 school year.

Mentor College was founded in 1982 to provide a programme of education based on proven traditional methods of teaching. Since then, the school has earned a reputation for solid academic performance, and the success of its students at the post-secondary level attests to this.

Candidates MUST possess the following:

  • Ontario Teacher Certification - Primary/Junior qualified preferred
  • Excellent command of the English language including excellent written and verbal skills
  • Self-motivation
  • Strong collaborative skills

Responsibilities for music teacher:

Primary Music teachers have a day-to-day responsibility for the teaching and guidance of students. Their usual responsibilities are to:

  • teach music and implement curriculum to all students on a rotating schedule, for review by the principals;
  • be able to provide instruction in music with age-appropriate musical skills for JK-Gr. 4 students for singing, playing, conducting, and musical theory;
  • introduce students to a wide variety of instruments such as percussion drums, bucket drums, boomwhackers, recorder (Gr. 3 and 4 only), Orff instruments, etc.;
  • play the piano (This is a huge asset if possible);
  • prepare students for school musical events;
  • possess working knowledge of the subject matter;
  • liaise with homeroom teachers as required;
  • liaise with parents when requested;
  • maintain classroom discipline and deal with breaches of other than an exceptional nature;
  • yard and hall duty i.e. supervision of playground and other school ground activities during school hours;
  • prepare report cards three times a year, for review by the principals;
  • prepare checklist comment sheets for classroom teachers three times a year;
  • maintain records of marks and anecdotal observations.
