Job Summary

As a member of an inter-professional inpatient rehabilitation team, reporting to the Manager of Medicine Program, the TR will develop, design, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized and group therapeutic recreation/leisure/life skills programs.
Provide leadership with special community-based events and/or group programming to support and encourage the development of optimal social/recreational skills and participation patterns for patients over the age of 18 years of age and/or who have physical, cognitive and/or social disabilities.

Skills & Abilities

•Minimum of three years recent and relevant experience in an acute medical and/or long term care setting.
•Experience and belief in the value of working in and committing to a fully integrated interprofessional team model.
•Training or certification in geriatrics preferred.
•Experience in program development an asset.
•Excellent written, verbal and telephone communication skills to ensure effective communication with clients/families, colleagues, health care providers, community agencies, etc.
•Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a strong team player.
•Superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
•Flexibility in scheduling and dealing with fluctuating workload.
•Excellent teaching and facilitation skills.
•Sensitively to multi-cultural issues, particularly with the elderly.

Qualifications

•Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation program OR Bachelors Degree in Allied Health program, with post graduation from a recognized Therapeutic Recreation degree program
•Membership in Therapeutic Recreation Ontario required.
•Current BCLS.
