POSITION TYPE TERM (March 31, 2025), FULL-TIME, 37.5 HOURS/WEEK

Overview:

Reporting to the Director, Neurodevelopmental Services, LIFE Program Coordinators and SOS OT Specialist, the OT Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator will support First Nations Communities in enhancing or expanding therapeutic recreation opportunities for children/youth and Families. The successful candidate will be responsible for visiting several First Nations Communities, on a regular basis. Travel will be required with overnight stays.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

Assist in development and implementation of an environmental scan. Build relationships and learn about community strengths and needs. Develop strategies to enhance/mentor/support existing programs. Assist in introduction of new programming. Provide training where required. Monitor effectiveness of all activities, problem solve where need and adjust programming as needed. Develop evaluation strategy, complete program evaluation and report. Be familiar with RCC policies. Be aware of participant needs as they relate: Personal care assistance, including but not limited to feeding, dressing, and toileting. Mobility assistance, including the use of mechanical lifts, transfer belts, transfer slings, and the use of mobility equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs. Be aware of medical risks including but not limited to seizures, asthma, and allergies. Where appropriate, lead and take part in selected activities and facilitate participation on the part of clients. Communicate with community partners, parents, support workers as needed (written and oral). Meet regularly with leadership team. Complete assigned administrative duties such as required.

Education, Licenses, Registration & Experience:

Required

Degree in Occupational Therapy and licensure by the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba 1 years’ experience working with relevant population Excellent interpersonal skills Physical fitness for lifting and bending and handling clients Advanced written and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively both independently and within an inter-disciplinary team

Preferred

Previous experience with LIFE programs and/or SOS Program CPR, First Aid, WEVAS or NVCI Training in staff orientation including basic practices Previous experience with program development and evaluation

Conditions of hire:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to present a satisfactory Criminal Records Check (Including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Check Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes Must be willing to travel to First Nations Communities which would include some evening and weekend work
