As an Organic Chemist, you will be responsible for providing organics analytical support and scientific expertise in water quality analysis related to water and wastewater treatment, industrial, watershed and storm water monitoring. Primary duties include:

Conduct studies to improve existing analytical methods for routine organics analyses on water, wastewater and their associated residuals, along with surface and storm water. Oversee the developments of new methods, procedures and targeting of emerging trace organic contaminants in various water matrices and their residuals. Provide technical support on routine organics analyses on water quality meet ISO 17025 accreditation requirements, and regulatory requirements for Water Treatment Plants (WTPs)/Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) operation approvals, bylaws, and standards and guidelines. Support customer services internally and externally with scientific expertise and perform other duties related to trace organics field. Support the trace organics area in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Act as a spokesperson for The City of Calgary on organic analytical chemistry related to water, wastewater or environmental protection. Qualifications  A degree in Bachelor of Science with a focus in organic chemistry and at least 5 years of experience in analytical laboratory or a relevant field. Must be a member of the Association of the Chemical Profession of Alberta (ACPA). Valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending. Experience with chromatography software ( HP/Agilent ChemStation) is preferred. Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) is preferred.  Knowledge of advanced instrumental maintenance & theory would be considered an asset. Ability for self-directed work & significant capacity for critical evaluation on trace organics study. Excellent organizational, analytical, communication skills as well as supportive character in a teamwork environment.
