The Opportunity:

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fillthe permanent full-time position of General Foreperson - EL&P. The General Foreperson – EL&P isresponsible to provide direction and coordination with other agencies in theinstallation, operation, SCADA operation and maintenance activities of theElectric Light and Power section including supervision of the Line Foreperson,Meters/Traffic Control/Sub Stations Foreperson. This position as a Safety CodesOfficer designed by the Safety Codes Council of Alberta is responsible for theinspection and monitoring of the construction, maintenance and operationactivities of the EL&P section as per the Quality Management Plan (QMP).

As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

Completion of Grade 12 and a JourneypersonCertification as a Power System Electrician, Powerline Technician orequivalent; with the ability to qualify as a Utility Safety Codes Officer. Minimum of five years’ experience at a workingforeperson level, including exposure to all phases in construction operationand maintenance of a utility system. Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, material,tools, and equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair ofoverhead and underground electrical power distribution systems and includinghigh voltage substations. Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazardsconnected with overhead and underground line construction and maintenance workand, as necessary, safety precautions to be observed. Knowledge of electrical principles as applied toelectrical distribution systems. Thorough knowledge of the Provincial Electric UtilityRegulations Ability to plan and schedule the use of employees,materials and equipment in an efficient and economical manner. Ability to estimate material and equipment requiredfor construction and maintenance plans. Ability to read and interpret blueprints,specifications and construction plans. Ability to maintain costs and other records and toprepare related reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationship with City Officials, and other Utility representatives, privatecontractors and general public.

Remuneration:

$56.29 to $70.37 per hour ($117,090 to $146,362 perAnnum).

Hours of Work:

80hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, with occasional eveningand weekend work when required.
