Your Opportunity:
As an integral part of the Community Support Team, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse will provide mental health nursing assessment and consultation to individuals referred to the team. This Team is part of a new initiative developed to support individuals with a developmental disability and a co-occurring mental illness and/or significant behavior concerns. Essential to the skillset of this position will be an understanding of how behavior is manifested as a result of a mental illness, developmental disability or other environmental factors. The Nurse will play a key role on the team, providing a holistic perspective of individuals’ health, wellbeing and community functioning. Interventions designed for individuals will be based on the individual’s presentation and their living situation and may include an urgent response, on-going support or short-term consultation. The Nurse will work with individuals referred, family and natural supports, as well as staff from other agencies involved in the individual’s life. Primary roles for the team will include assessment and consultation in order to make recommendations/guidance with respect to the development of a care or treatment plan, capacity building and education (preparing and delivering training), responding to emerging issues, and assisting with the community integration and participation of individuals in socially valued activities. Services and access to this team will extend across Central Zone. Other tasks as required.
Description:
As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
