Extrusion Supervisor

Location: Pickering Facility (Aluminum Casting and Extrusion Plant)

Reporting To: Operations Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Extrusion Supervisor to join our team in Pickering. This position reports to Manager, Operations, and is responsible for supervising, planning, organizing, and assigning work within the production area. The successful incumbent would support team leads in order to meet production goals, support maintenance to reduce downtime, communicate with all departments to ensure deadlines and goals are met while ensuring the safety of employees within a shift.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Forecasting the requirements of the production in order to achieve the production target. – 10%
  • Making most efficient utilization of the available sources for production. – 20%
  • Focusing on reducing material handling cost with current equipment as well as working with the crews to figure out what and how to make improvements. – 20%
  • Reducing the quality cost by root cause analysis of non-conformances then applying both corrective and preventive actions. – 30%
  • Building team spirit by means of hands on personal involvement. – 10%
  • Improving the productivity level of the workers on continuous basis by training and setting achievable production targets and expectations. – 10%

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises work of others, including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. May offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments, but does not have responsibility for making these decisions.

Health & Safety:

  • To participate in the Company’s Health & Safety, Housekeeping and Environmental programs.
  • Ensure all internal safety policies and legislation are followed as part of Due Diligence.
  • Monitor any injuries, and complete paperwork as required
  • Participate in workplace inspections on monthly basis as required
  • Perform accident investigations within time lines specified by the OHSA.
  • Report on recommendations from H&S Committee within time lines specified by the OHSA
  • Attend all safety training as required.
  • Must have working knowledge of all safety legislation and follow all safety policies
  • Ensure all employees follow company’s health and safety policies and procedures and report all violations

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma is required
  • Vocational or Technical training (preferred)
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of related work experience is needed to effectively perform the job’s responsibilities
  • Experience in aluminum extrusion industry is considered an asset
  • Strong listening skills
  • A team player with employee relations skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow through and meet deadlines and deliverables
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Comfort, awareness, and experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Hands on skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Other duties as assigned
