Entry-Level Buyer Job Description

An entry-level buyer, also known as a junior buyer or purchasing agent, plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing the procurement process within a business. Their responsibilities include:

  • Purchasing Materials and Consumables: Procuring materials, supplies, equipment, and outside services to meet company service levels and goals.
    • Executing the receiving of purchased materials and ensuring proper stocking.
    • Inventory Management: Maintaining inventory levels and materials on a regular basis.
    • Developing an effective system for monitoring purchase orders.
    • Supplier Communication: Interacting closely with suppliers and the quality department to resolve quality issues.
    • Developing and maintaining supplier relationships.
    • Product Research and Evaluation: Conducting market research, product tests, and evaluations.
    • Analyzing competitors to determine which products should be featured in stores, catalogs, and online marketplaces.
    • Order Accuracy: Ensuring that all deliveries satisfy assigned orders.
    • Reporting any back-ordered or missing products to the management team.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field is typically required.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using procurement software and tools.
