HDR is looking for a leader to join our growing Western Canada practice. Our Transportation Business Group provides engineering, consulting, and planning services to clients offering expert services to a broad cross section of clients in the areas of Highways and Roads, Transit, Aviation, Maritime and Freight Rail. The Senior Transportation Leader is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and directing transportation projects by leading multi-disciplinary teams of consultants who are delivering technical services and meeting client expectations.

This leader will work on developing and implementing strategies to grow the business and continue to diversify the client base. As a senior employee-owner of HDR, this position is accountable for meeting business performance metrics, identifying evolving agency needs, developing staff and pursuing growth opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of project execution as a Project Manager by taking the lead and responsibility for production of projects and deliverables. Lead growth, expansion, and positioning efforts by collaborating on business fundamentals with area operations, business development and project management Provide people leadership for the Alberta transportation group in particular and more broadly the Western Canada transportation group, with respect to technical competence, career development, coaching, mentoring, and recruitment. Implement and participate in quality assurance of project quality control procedures, represent the Quality Program and convey corporate quality goals, participate in risk management reviews, business reviews and disputes resolution activities Participate in development of strong client relationships and serve as a main point of contact for selected clients. Pursue and market transportation services to keep the team of transportation experts actively delivering to clients Facilitate and lead pre-positioning efforts, pursuits and proposals to capture new work Encourage and participate in business and community activities as representative of HDR

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

A minimum of 15 years of related Transportation project experience in any of the specialty areas represented by the group. A minimum of 10 years in staff leadership, pursuit and/or project management experience. A minimum of 10 years with business development and client management Positive Western Canada marketplace experience is required. A positive professional reputation as one who can win projects primarily in the Alberta market and secondarily in the BC market. Proven ability to develop and maintain clients in consulting industry. Existing network of clients in the Alberta market space is essential, and British Columbia market space is beneficial. Self-starter; good communication and people skills. Success in initiating and managing growth. A minimum of 5 years of prior consulting experience Must work cooperatively with the Market Sector Leadership, Department Leadership, Office Managers as well as other Regional Managers and staff. Must be committed to quality and improvement and promoting HDR's values. Must develop and lead areas strategic direction in line with the overall sectors vision for growth and profitability. Candidates who reside locally in the Calgary market are preferred. Must be willing to travel occasionally to support various HDR offices - primarily in Alberta and British Columbia.
