Description:

As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures as required.

Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Proven ability to work within a computer based environment. Demonstrate proficiency in core laboratory theory including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen procurement and handling, and transfusion medicine dispensing by applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. Demonstrate proficiency in general radiography. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, interdisciplinary team members and personnel from other departments in a fast pace changing environment. Must be proficient at phlebotomy: this role is called on often to perform phlebotomy on all ages of patients, and neonatal skin punctures. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment in accordance with standard operating procedures. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills showing attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated ability to organize, set priorities and multitask. Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills, especially troubleshooting skills. Ability to facilitate change positively by encouraging others and accepting change within the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 2 year experience as a CLXT.
