We are looking for a Metal Fabricator (Fitter) to join our rebuild shops at the Aluminum Smelter Operation in Kitimat, BC. Responsibilities include performing new fabrication, repair work, and supporting plant fabrication requirements such as steel frames, containers, and assisting with mobile equipment repairs. Additionally, you will be responsible for addressing equipment failures and refurbishing or rebuilding worn-out equipment as needed.

This is a great opportunity for a safety-oriented and motivated individual, with fabricating skills and expertise, to have an important role in ensuring the reliability of equipment by creating and repairing key components in process equipment in a safe, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective manner.

Reporting to the Rebuild Shop Supervisor and working a desirable 10-hour Tuesday to Friday dayshift, you will be:

Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto safety standards – actively participating, and engaging in safety initiatives promoting our “Zero harm” safety culture Performing equipment repairs within planned time frames Providing sufficient detail about repairs so that others can understand what work has been done on the equipment, by entering the details in SAP Contributing to safety and productivity by constructively participating in safety meetings and incident investigations Conducting equipment reviews to ensure new and existing equipment meet site safety standards and operational requirements Operating specialized metalworking equipment (brake press, plate sheer, rolling machine, iron worker, plasma cutter)

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team Interprovincial Red Seal Metal Fabricator (Fitter) qualification Minimum of a valid Class 5 or 7 driver’s license, or out-of-province equivalent Familiarity with the properties of metal Proficiency with operating specialized metalworking machines Work cooperatively in a small team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability Good communication
