We are currently seeking a dynamic and engaged individual to assume the position of Planner III with the Planning and Development Department.


Reporting to the Manager, Planning and Environment, the Planner III leads complex planning and development projects, conducts research, analysis and report writing in support of the City's short- and long-term strategic objectives. The position makes decisions on complex development permits, develops policy and By-law documents for public review and Council or ministerial approval. The successful candidate will lead and mentor staff within the department to support onboarding, training, and implementation of policies and procedures.

The position requires a University degree in urban and regional planning or a related field and a minimum of 6 years of experience in planning, preferably in a municipal setting. The incumbent will possess the ability to compose and exhibit visual aids for design analysis of sites, corridors, and neighborhoods using industry standard software such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and 2-D and 3-D rendering software. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, perform independently, utilize sound judgement, and provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced colleagues. The incumbent must have full membership and be in good standing with CIP and APPI.

The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive starting salary of $108,616 as well as a comprehensive benefits package including monthly housing and vacation travel allowances totaling $450, and a defined benefit pension plan.
