The City of Penticton is looking to fill the position of RCMP Custodial Guard (Relief) in our RCMP Detachment. The mission of the Penticton RCMP is to serve and protect the community, and work in partnership with the community to deliver a responsive and progressive police service. The RCMP promote respect for rights and freedoms, the law and democratic traditions, and treat all people equally and with respect in accordance with the RCMP's core values.

Reporting to the Municipal Administration Manager, the RCMP Custodial Guard is responsible for the care and control of persons being held in the Penticton RCMP cellblock. The work includes other administrative duties as they relate to the people under their charge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The overall supervision of prisoners while in custody.
  • Securing effects and maintaining their continuity for the duration the prisoner is in custody.
  • Assisting regular members in the booking-in and release procedures of all prisoners.
  • Complete required forms used in cellblock operations accurately and efficiently.
  • Control phone calls to facilitate communications with lawyers, other agencies, and the public.

Required Qualifications:

  • Adult Correction Officer Program through Justice Institute or equivalent.
  • Experience with care and handling of incarcerated persons in a policing environment.
  • Knowledge of RCMP computer applications, RCMP Policy, police radio equipment.
  • M.P. Enhanced Security Clearance.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Excellent Interpersonal Communication Skills (Conflict Resolution).
  • Ability to multi-task in demanding and stressful situations.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ethical behaviour and professionalism.
