Job summary

An exciting opportunity is available for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced paediatric nurse to join the team of Paediatric Nurse Practitioners working in the Paediatric Emergency Assessment Unit (PEAU) at GNCH. Presentations to PEAU include a wide variety of illnesses, injuries and complex children under GNCH care. We are also a major paediatric trauma centre and regularly receive patients from the Great North Air Ambulance. Patients are seen in a single queue by the ED Team and Paediatrics.

Main duties of the job

You should be a paediatric nurse with substantial post registration experience in an acute paediatric area or emergency department. A teaching qualification is essential.

Dependent upon qualifications you will be offered a Band 6 or Band 7. For Band 6 posts full training will be given and will include a clinical skills course, APLS provider certificate and non medical prescribing. Once training is complete you will progress to a Band 7.

All posts are subject to NHS pre-employment checks including occupational healthclearance and DBS (where appropriate). All posts are subject to a probationary period this will normally last six months. All pay progression is conditional upon a positive outcome at annual appraisal. Annual leave entitlement is in line with NHS Terms and Conditions, starting at 27 days per annum rising to 33 days per annum after 10 year service. This is in addition to public holidays. Pro rata for part time workers. Payment of contractual sick pay (CSP). All successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first months pay. You will be required to sign a DBS payment form which will be issued to you as part of your recruitment process. All new employees will be required to attend the Trust induction programme and complete appropriate mandatory training requirements. Where professional registration is required for a post it is the responsibility of the employee to maintain their registration. The Trust operates a no smoking policy.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a nurse practitioner as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to perform a specific technological procedure/s endoscopy, ultrasound in a defined patient group and/or advanced patient assessment and clinical decision making in a broad patient group H@N, pre assessment. To deliver a quality of service matching clinical need to available resources within the focus of specialist nursing practice:o To ensure that the patient is the central focus of a streamlined patient journey ensuring optimal quality of Working as a nurse practitioner, provide a prompt response to calls from colleagues, prioritising importance and clinical Manage own caseload to include assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment within defined parameters and Provide immediate care management of patient including communication of plan to patients and significant Review and refer to appropriate person, AHP, resident medical staff, specialist registrar or critical care outreach Liaising with Patient Services Coordinator where Communicate within multidisciplinary team, ward/departmental staff and/or out of hours Provide specialist education and training to departmental nursing staff, nursing and medical students.
