As a member of the Northwest Pharmacy team, the Pharmacy Assistant will work with Technicians & Pharmacists working to their full scope of practice. This posting is for Valleyview Hospital in Valleyview, AB. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Under limited supervision of the Operations Manager, and the direct supervision of a pharmacist or Technician, the Pharmacy Assistant performs various medication related duties including distribution, delivery & repackaging of medications; management and replenishment of medication inventory levels; compounding non-sterile medication; and moderately complex clerical duties. Core duties may include, but are not limited to: Transports pharmacy items between pharmacy, patient care areas & other departments. Repackages & labels pharmaceuticals. Monitors, orders and receives pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established quotas.Performs all tasks involving medication ward stock including inventory transfer. Participates in narcotics distribution according to established procedures.Prints and distributes reports from pharmacy computer system.Performs routine physical cleaning & maintenance on pharmacy equipment.Communicates unit-based issues to other pharmacy staff for resolution.Participates in hospital, departmental and/or quality assurance activities to ensure standards are maintained.Assists in training and orientation of new employees.

Description:

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Basic knowledge of purchasing, receiving, and inventory control of pharmaceuticals to minimize outdated medications.Must be fluent in the English language (written and verbal). Excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.Good organizational, problem solving and decision-making ability.Must display tact, courtesy, discretion and respect confidentiality.Must be accurate, reliable, precise, co-operative, able to demonstrate effective service attitude, and self-motivated.Must be able to work both independently and co-operatively in a team environment.Must be able to adapt to new technologies and changing workflow patterns. Familiarity with the operation of various office equipment, unit dose packaging equipment and pharmaceutical compounding equipment.Must be in good physical condition as majority of shift involves: heavy lifting, standing, crouching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking and standing for extended periods of time.
