Position Title: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Location: Rotary Outdoor Pool (46245 Reece Ave, Chilliwack, BC V2P 3A9)

With the ability to work at the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre in the event of adverse weather conditions

Terms: Temporary, Full-Time (35 hours per week)

Shifts: Shifts vary but will include weekday mornings, evenings, and weekends

Wage: Lifeguard only - $20.65 per hour 

Lifeguard/Swim Instructor - $22.93 per hour

Start Date: May 1, 2024, or as soon as possible

End Date: September 1, 2024

Reports To: Supervisor, Aquatics

Nature & Scope:

The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment.

Major Responsibilities:

Guard and teach swimming lessons in a positive and professional manner Develop and lead lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participants Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues Perform routine pool maintenance, as required  Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property, by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained among all members and staff Promote philanthropy through the annual fundraiser campaign  Strong work ethic and able to remain flexible  Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices 

Requirements:

Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years) CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year) Current National Lifeguard (NL) pool option with AMOA YSI certification Experience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferred YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle  Advanced leadership courses are an asset Demonstrated high level of customer service skills  Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date 3 professional references
