The Medical Technologist is responsible for the management of the laboratory department and activities involving study samples (e.g. blood samples, biopsies, etc.), material and equipment. They are also responsible for laboratory kits, various inventories and maintenance and calibration of clinical and laboratory devices and equipment.


More specifically, the Medical Technologist must:

  • Process the samples received in the laboratory according to the procedures specific to the studies;
  • Help with blood draws and other biological samples;
  • Creates and modify source documentation to ensure required data is recorded;
  • Ensure the shipping and receiving of samples within the time required by the client;
  • Ensure optimal storage conditions for samples;
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of the laboratory
  • Provide quality training to clinical staff performing laboratory tasks;
  • Communicates with central and local laboratories for daily correspondences;
  • May by required to follow-up on laboratory results;
  • Meet quality expectations with regard to the laboratory and sponsor queries;
  • Understand the principles and processes for providing excellent customer service internally and externally;
  • Understand the clinical research protocols for the studies involved in;
  • Respect the established procedures (SOP);
  • Plan, organize and prioritize the work in the laboratory order to meet the established deadlines;
  • Plan the personnel, space, material and equipment needs of the laboratory;
  • Support research coordinators during inspections and audits;
  • Participate in the revision of SOPs and laboratory training manuals

Description - Fr:

Le Technologiste médical est responsable de la gestion du département du laboratoire et des activités impliquant des échantillons d'étude ( ex. échantillons de sang, biopsies, etc.), du matériel et de l'équipement. Il est également responsable des kits de laboratoire, des divers inventaires, de la maintenance et de l'étalonnage des appareils et équipements cliniques et de laboratoire.


Plus spécifiquement, le Technologiste médical doit:

  • Traiter les échantillons reçus au laboratoire selon les procédures propres aux études ;
  • Aider pour les prélèvements sanguins et autres échantillons biologiques ;
  • Créer et modifier la documentation source pour garantir que les données requises sont enregistrées ;
  • Assurer l'expédition et la réception des échantillons dans le délai requis par le client ;
  • Assurer des conditions de stockage optimales pour les échantillons ;
  • Participer à l'amélioration continue du laboratoire ;
  • Fournir une formation de qualité au personnel clinique effectuant des tâches de laboratoire ;
  • Communiquer avec les laboratoires centraux et locaux pour les correspondances quotidiennes ;
  • Peut être amené à suivre les résultats de laboratoire ;
  • Satisfaire aux attentes de qualité concernant le laboratoire et les demandes des sponsors ;
  • Comprendre les principes et les processus pour fournir un excellent service à la clientèle à l'interne et à l'externe ;
  • Comprendre les protocoles de recherche clinique pour les études impliquées ;
  • Respecter les procédures établies (SOP) ;
  • Planifier, organiser et prioriser le travail au laboratoire afin de respecter les délais établis ;
  • Planifier les besoins en personnel, espace, matériel et équipement du laboratoire ;
  • Soutenir les coordonnateurs de recherche lors des inspections et des audits ;
  • Participer à la révision des SOP et des manuels de formation en laboratoire.


Profil recherché:

Éducation

  • Diplôme collégial en tant que technologiste médical ou technicien de laboratoire
  • Une licence pour effectuer des prélèvements sanguins


Expérience

  • Un minimum de 3 ans d'expérience en laboratoire;



Connaissances et compétences

  • Fort intérêt pour la science et la recherche clinique ;
  • Est reconnu pour sa compréhension du processus scientifique, sa capacité à analyser et à comprendre les protocoles de recherche ;
  • Connaissance des bonnes pratiques de laboratoire (GLP) et des réglementations relatives au transport des marchandises dangereuses (TDG/IATA) ;
  • Connaissance intermédiaire/avancée de la suite Microsoft Office (Excel-Word) ;
  • Bilinguisme français/anglais (oral et écrit) ;
  • Démontre une capacité d'apprentissage rapide et une curiosité intellectuelle ;
  • Aime le travail en équipe ;
  • Capacité à travailler sur plusieurs études en même temps ;
  • Intégrité, diligence et rigueur ;
  • Autonomie

Education:

  • College degree as medical technologist or laboratory technician
  • License to perform blood draws


Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in laboratory;


Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong interest in science and clinical research;
  • Is recognized for his understanding of the scientific process, his ability to analyze and understand research protocols;
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG/IATA) regulations;
  • Intermediate / advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel-Word);
  • French / English bilingualism (oral and written);
  • Demonstrates an ability to learn quickly and an intellectual curiosity;
  • Likes teamwork;
  • Ability to work on several studies at the same time;
  • Integrity, diligence and rigor;
