Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Position Reports To:  Metallurgy Superintendent

POSITION OBJECTIVES

The key objective of this position is to supervise the Metallurgy team to improve the operational performance of the process plant and provide technical support to the Operations group.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Health, Safety and Environment:

Ensure all Health, Safety and Environment Policies & Procedures are adhered to by all direct reports Conduct Pre-Shift Toolbox Meetings and Monthly Safety Meetings Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained. Perform rotational Job Observations, Workplace Inspections and PPE Audits Investigate all Health, Safety and Environment near misses or incidents and develop action plans to prevent re-occurrence Identify opportunities for Continuous Improvement in developing best practices and SOP’s to minimize risks

Human Resources:

Effectively manage direct reports in the areas of:

Coaching and Mentoring for personal development. Performance Management Leave and Attendance Management Setting clear expectations and accountabilities

Business KPI’s:

Manage supply inventories in the metallurgical laboratory. This includes ensuring that MSDS are up to date. Train operators on various SOPs related to sample preparation and circuit analysis for mill operations Support operations in the maintenance and record keeping for the SAG and Ball Mill liners, Knelson concentrators, cyclones, Kemix screens and carbon screens Measure steel levels in both Sag and ball mill Create, update and manage laboratory standard operating procedures. Data entry and analysis for daily metallurgical reporting, weekly reporting and month end reporting Oversee Sample collection, surveys including: Perform daily assessment on the CND performance Perform daily check on reagent inventory Perform daily check on CIP carbon inventory Perform weekly survey of leach, CIP and carbon handling gold and silver inventory Perform weekly test of carbon activity Perform carbon activity tests on new chemicals that may have a negative impact on recovery Perform quarterly belt cuts Routinely weigh and sample fine carbon bags Perform bottle roll leach tests on exploration samples and plant samples as required. Lead grinding circuit sampling campaigns Conduct leach and CND test work. Implementation of metallurgical operating parameters Assist with the supervision of the assay lab department Operating and assisting operations with the gravity circuit and Intensive cyanidation reactor Daily mill inspections Maintain good knowledge of Microsoft Office systems – particularly Excel. Executing on laboratory methods and techniques for mineral processing test work. Designing experiments and plant trials. Effective communication, both verbal and in written. Will be required to write summaries, reports, memos and emails. Demonstrate a personal commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental responsibilities Optimize the operational mill process control systems Any additional tasks as requested by your Supervisor

Competency, Knowledge and Skills

8-10 years of gold milling experience Accredited University degree in Chemical, Process or Metallurgical Engineering Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Visio, MS Project, quantitative risk analysis would be beneficial. Proven communication skills both verbal and written.
