Reporting to Foreman, a Grade Checker is responsible for ensuring proper elevation and cross section of roadways, pathways, and lanes. Directing ground personnel and equipment to achieve desired goals. Use of various tools and GPS (Global Positioning Systems) equipment. Checking and maintaining control of various common and gravel materials being delivered on site. Directing sub-contractors and maintaining a relationship with consultants when the Foreman is not present. Helping the Foreman with paper flow.

General Responsibilities:

Checking grade using eye levels, boning rods and GPS equipment. Directing grader operator and ground personnel. Helping with the direction of gravel deliveries and sub-contractors Ensure proper grade of various surfaces for paving. Working closely with compaction operators and on-site Geo-tech to ensure compaction of materials being used. Follow proper safety procedures and help maintain a safe work environment for fellow workers. Filling out of daily forms such as field-level hazard assessments, Safety meetings, etc. Help with tracking of quantities and areas for payment. Measure job areas and calculate the required materials. Promote a safe, respectful work environment through the leadership and training of other employees.

Technical Knowledge:

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. 25mm gravel, 50mm lane gravel, common fill, and their uses. Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction of highways and roads. ,

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications & Experience

High-School Diploma or is preferred. Ability to communicate information, both verbal and nonverbal, clearly to machine operators, truckers, and other workers. Experience using hand and power tools, cutting and fastening tools, chipping, and abrading tools. Minimum of 3 years of experience working with a grade crew. Class 5 driver’s license; clean Driver’s Abstract.
