About the Position:

This is a temporary academic staff position replacing a bargaining unit employee starting in September and ending in March .

The successful candidate is responsible for providing accessibility counselling, personal counselling and academic accommodations for students who have learning, physical and/or psychological disabilities. In order to recommend appropriate accommodations to meet the learning needs of students, this position requires an in-depth understanding of disability documentation including psycho-educational assessments. Additional duties include facilitation of the Bursary for Students with Disabilities, conducting workshops for students and staff, screening students with suspected learning disabilities, as well as participating in departmental team meetings.

Salary range: $73, - $,

**Rate of pay is to be determined at time of hire in accordance with education & qualifications based on our classification form in the Collective Agreement**

Specific Accountabilities:

•Provides short-term, solution-focused, counselling support to students dealing with personal, mental health, accessibility and academic issues;
•Provides disability-related counselling and facilitation of the accommodation process, in partnership with Accessibility Services.
•Collaborates with students and Accessibility Services to provide students with counselling support and interventions, strategies, and academic accommodation plans;
•Provides crisis intervention services including preliminary triage and direct liaison with local crisis support services;
•Maintains student files and confidential case management details in digital clinical record keeping database;
•Acts in a consultative and training role to faculty and staff to identify and address student issues;
•Develops and facilitates workshops on related issues and makes referrals as required; group counselling experience an asset;
•Participates as a collaborative and consultative member of the Student Success Division and counselling team to achieve College goals that contribute to student retention and success in the learning environment;
•Builds and maintains community partnerships to address specific ongoing needs of students and works collaboratively with mental health agencies and other community, provincial and nationals organizations;
•Works on special projects as assigned to advance the provision of Student Success at Lambton College.

Qualifications:

•Master’s degree in Psychology, Disability Studies, Social Work, Special Education, or a related discipline required
•Must be a registered member qualified to practice the controlled act of psychotherapy in the Province of Ontario
•Minimum 5 years’ recent and relevant experience
•Preference will be given to candidates with experience assisting students with disabilities in a post-secondary environment
•An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
•Demonstrated expertise assisting and accommodating students with a wide range of disabilities and accessibility needs including: students with learning disabilities; mental health issues; students who are deaf/hard of hearing, and students experiencing medical and mobility issues
•Excellent verbal and written communication, and strong interpersonal skills required
•Commitment to working collaboratively to remove barriers and enhance the learning environment for students with disabilities in accordance with all legal and ethical requirements
•Must have a strong commitment to providing quality professional services and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
