Position Summary :

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Operations, under the direction of the leadhand, the incumbent performs a wide variety of tasks related to the installation, repair and maintenance of all University plumbing systems and fixtures including gas fired equipment.

Accountabilities:

respects and responds to direction given by leadhand(s) contributes and participates in the effective use of the Quality Control System performs all duties related to a Plumbing Journey Person, including new installations and renovations repairs, installs and maintains gas fired equipment and hot water heating systems to the limitation of the incumbent’s certification assists in establishing preventative maintenance schedules performs pipefitting accesses, monitors and controls Building Automation System when required installs, repairs and maintains plumbing systems and fixtures, i.e. urinals, washbasins, grease traps, water softeners, deionizers, etc. tests and maintains records for water systems prepares estimates for work orders requests, orders or picks up required material from suppliers in order to complete the job performs soldering and welding (arc or oxy-acetylene) as required works with sketches and blueprints performs other related duties in emergencies, performs minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed own limitations understands and complies with all Departmental Policies and Procedures prepares any reports required for control, audit or reporting purposes flexibility in hours of work will be required to work evenings and/or weekends to accommodate work volume. Adequate notice will be provided. may be required to be on call as necessary

Qualifications:

must possess a valid Certificate of Apprenticeship, Plumber must possess a valid Department of Labour Certificate of Qualification - Plumber must possess a Gas Technician II Certificate must be trained and certified in Cross Connection Control currently working in the trade demonstrated experience as a plumber/gas technician experience in building maintenance related to the trade computer literacy, e.g. use of control systems, University computer system, e:mail etc ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches ability to work with a minimum of supervision must possess a valid Class - G Ontario Driver’s license team work - ability to work in a team environment with a minimum of supervision. Shares information with team members. Is collaborative in dealing with customers and fellow employees. customer focused - responds promptly to customer needs. Uses customer information to improve service. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers. receptive to change - can adapt to changing circumstances. Working Conditions:

Physical effort: Carrying supplies, bending pipes. Reaching, bending, stretching, climbing and heavy lifting Physical environment: Varying temperatures, noise, exposure to fumes, chemicals and solvents, dirty water including sewage waste products and possibly infectious or toxic environment. Working in cramped quarters. Sensory attention: Following required codes. Reading blueprints. Attention to detail when pipe fitting to avoid leaks or explosions. Operating specialized equipment. Mental stress: Moderate. On call in.

Compensation:

Rate of Pay:  $36.63/ per hour

Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, continuing position. The normal hours of work will Friday to Sunday, 4:00 am to 4:00 pm.
