The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Chief Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, the Regulatory and Compliance Analyst will provide guidance and support as well as strategy implementation on all regulatory and compliance matters in Canada. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of OSFI federal and provincial regulations, privacy laws, complaint handling, and filings within the insurance industry. This role will be crucial in ensuring that our organization operates within the boundaries of legal and regulatory frameworks, while maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct and adherence to industry best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyze OSFI federal and provincial regulations, identifying relevant changes and providing recommendations and work plans for compliance enhancement.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to assess the company's compliance with federal and provincial/territorial regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate the completion of Regulatory Compliance Management “RCM” Assessments and supporting testing of key controls across various business lines.
  • Conduct broker-related compliance and due diligence to assist with broker onboarding.
  • Support, maintain, and manage an effective Privacy Program including but not limited to daily operations of the program and handling of tracking of incidents and breaches.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory applications and filings to Canadian insurance regulators on all licensing, registration, as well as maintenance of extra-provincial registrations, ensuring accuracy and adherence to timelines.
  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints, ensuring fair and prompt resolution in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Lead terrorist financing reporting and sanctions reviews.
  • Act as a liaison with regulators, authorities, and stakeholders when required.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, to provide guidance on regulatory and compliance issues.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for employees to enhance their understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and emerging compliance issues.
  • Draft procedures in relation to applicable legislation and regulations.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in law, business administration, or a related field. A Juris Doctor (JD) degree is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of regulatory/compliance related experience in the P&C insurance industry or other financial institution, preferably in a P&C insurance company.
  • Thorough understanding of OSFI federal and provincial regulations, privacy laws, complaints handling, and regulatory filings in the insurance sector.
  • Familiarity with Canadian insurance industry standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Experience supporting the development and maintenance of a Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) program considered an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of insurance products, operations, and underwriting practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory issues.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal and compliance concepts effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and departments to achieve compliance objectives.
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Professional certifications or designations related to insurance compliance (e.g., CRM, CIP) are an asset.
  • Experience with compliance software and/or willingness to learn compliance software.
