Guardhouse Operator

The Guardhouse operator is responsible for the sampling, grading and scaling of inbound yellow peas and assists with onsite traffic flow as needed.

Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for the day-to-day activity of maintaining safe operations within the gatehouse including maintaining safe site traffic flows, yellow pea sampling, grading, scaling and processing all trucks on SAP.

Log, organize, store, distribute, and dispose of incoming samples after final inspections

Clean yellow pea samples and prepare them for grading

Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment (Foss analyzer, scales, etc.)

Monitor all equipment according to desired standards before performing analysis

Perform analyses such as moisture, protein, dockage, test weight, etc.

Maintaining/monitoring of basic laboratory supplies (gloves, dust masks, filter papers etc.).

Inspect fire extinguishers monthly.

Cleaning of work areas (dusting, sweeping, etc.).

Follow all requirements according to the Canada Grain Act and Canada Grain regulations.

Follow CFIA protocol for sampling, CGC standards for sampling, Roquette SOPs.

Entering grading reports into SAP

Inspect / grade all types of grain arriving at the laboratory or during onsite inspections.

Assist in direction of our existing carriers and rating performance.

Assist in tracking of freight claims for outbound truck and intermodal shipments.

Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

To collaborate effectively and bring alignment to ensure cross-function communication with other teams, departments and project lead as Production, QA, HR, EHS, Maintenance and Security etc. achieves results.

Schedule offload/loading appointments with carriers.

Qualifications:

Minimum High school diploma

Previous experience in performing preliminary grain inspections and grain grading would be an asset.

Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.

Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.

Ability to work well with others & independently.

Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.

Work well under pressure and be very reliable. Able to work extended hours, work on the weekends, adapt to flexible shifts.
