Reporting to the Manager, Engineering the incumbent provides a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the development and management of maintenance plans for distribution and substation assets within Toronto Hydro’s system. This includes (but not limited to) establishing and/or managing the requirements and frequency of inspection and maintenance activities, review and prioritization of deficiencies, enhancement of asset condition assessment, close communication with program management and execution counterparts, budget proposals, and participating in short and long-term planning activities.

The Incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participates in maintenance planning activities. Identifies, implements, and supports continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance processes.

• Provides timely technical support and consultation, review and prioritization of deficiencies, and demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies.

• Supports asset condition assessment enhancement and analytics. Collaborates with stakeholders and team members to support data analytics related with short and long-term planning processes.

• Develops strong working relationship with internal and external stakeholders to support execution of maintenance requirements.

• Performs trend analyses of equipment data and determines appropriate actions to improve and optimize capital and operations programs.

• Undertakes and/or participates in special investigation and studies, and prepares reports with recommendations.

• Able to work with large datasets effectively and prepares data analyses to drive engineering decisions efficiently.

• Supports the preparation of material and/or technical specifications and standards; reviews proposals from suppliers, contractors and consultants for technical merit and compliance; investigates and evaluates the application of new technologies.

• Participates in implementing corporate goals and objectives.

• May be called upon to act as a team or project leader.

• Performs root cause analyses of failure data.

COMPETENCIES:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred)

• Engineering experience in Distribution Utilities strongly preferred.

• Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario preferred.

• Experience/knowledge of engineering maintenance & reliability analysis.

• Knowledgeable in business planning processes and project management.

• Experience in Data Management and analysis, with applied experience in the use of Alteryx and Tableau.

• Fluent in the application of information technology, such as MS Office suites, CAD, SAP, GEAR, engineering records, and specialized engineering application software.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize opportunities.

• Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing and facilitating change, willing to challenge the status quo.

• Demonstrated versatile leadership; encourage organizational teamwork, collaboration and educated risk taking to develop innovative solutions and support corporate goals and objectives.

• Strong negotiating/relationship building ability.
