DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Performing routine and specialized test procedures in Chemistry, Hematology and Blood Bank; performing pre-analytical procedures including phlebotomy, specimen management and ECGs; organizing workflow to maintain performance standards of quantity and quality; observing, troubleshooting and reporting problems with methods, equipment to Lab Supervisor; ensuring cleanliness of equipment and immediate work area; following established safety and infection control procedures; participating in student/staff training programs, as required; and performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

*Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS);
*Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO);
*Current theoretical and technical knowledge in Hematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry;
*Proven in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles and instruments and their interrelationships;
*Experience and technical knowledge of the electronic and/or mechanical equipment necessary to perform routine and specialized testing;
*Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize problems, identify the cause, create alternatives and determine solutions;
*Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
*Ability to exercise independent judgement, deductive reasoning with attention to detail;
*Ability to effectively perform under pressure in emergency situations;
*Proven organizational skills with the ability to assess requests and prioritize them to ensure excellent prompt patient care;
*Physically capable of performing bending, lifting, turning frequently throughout the shift to accomplish tasks;
*Recent experience in a Core Laboratory, preferred;
*Must have a satisfactory performance record;

*Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service sessions; and
*Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standard

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
